What can I use in place of a Mullard ECL83?

Mullard make fine tubes. I like Telefunken best for my ear. However my hearing sucks!
For new tubes the Ei Gold Elite 12AX7EG with gold pins are going for about $11.00. I have read that this is a great tube for the money.
If you buy new Commie tubes be sure the seller is willing to take back noisy/microphonic tubes or screens them before selling.

You really mean an ECC83? Might give a try on Bugle Boys, or the many military versions of the 12AX7.
