I've had the opportunity to play around a little with this camera the last few weeks too, and I must say I'm impressed. Of course you still need a tripod to take a crisp night shot, but for standard low light indoor stuff it performed very convincingly free-handed, and you've got the opportunity to shoot RAW and completely manually, so that you don't have to worry about the camera messing up your pictures.

Personally I use a Sigma DP2, but it's low light performance is less than stellar.

see my sigfile for my flicker photos.

I use oly slr gear. not the best for low noise but I also use 'neatimage' (google it). no matter WHAT you use, you can benefit from denoising.

you can get results like this with almost any manual camera (p/s with manual controls or any old slr). its all in the lighting and setup, not the camera. I was getting results like this (almost) with my old noisebox, the pany fz30. with an slr, at least I didnt' HAVE to denoise but I still do...

I stumbled across this one looking for an easy to carry camera. I like it. Panasonic LX3. Nice and small. Great photos.

I have a few of the older pany lx1's still in my collection (one even brand new).

its a noisebox above base iso but at least the noise was managable (even in jpg). since the change in jpg engines in pany cams, since the lx1/fz30 days, none of the jpgs are processable (like before) anymore ;( you now have to use raw if you are going to avoid the artifacts.

I stopped buying pany cams after the change from lx1 to lx2.

I use a Canon 5D and also a Leica D-Lux 3. Both are capable of excellent low-light shots. If your looking for something high quality but still point and shoot convenient I'd recommend looking at Canon's new G11. They actually reduced the megapixel count from 14.7mp to 10.0mp in exchange for less noise and greatly improved low light shooting capability. List price is around $500 which is not bad for a camera like that.

I think it's more stormtrooper than ipod

.

I use a D50 with the standard 18-55mm VR kit lens and a 50mm f1.8 prime lens. This combination still has plenty of room for me to learn new things and become a better photographer!

I love the fact that in photography you can have every lens out there and still produce worse shots than someone using a $150 point & shoot.
