OK, I know that this is sort of a rip-off of another thread, but what the hell.
I was wondering, given the size of many of you folks' music collections, if there was an artist or two that you have actively decided that you will (perhaps on principle alone) NEVER own any of their music.
I'm sure that there are more than a few artists that might qualify, but the one that really stands out for me: The Bee Gees (with all due respect to the recently departed Maurice Gibb).
I make this decision for two reasons:
First, having heard some of their early work, it's clear to me that they are actually capable of MUCH BETTER than the disco drivel that they finally settled on. I'd put what little I've heard in a category that is CLOSE to early Moody Blues. Oh, the humanity.
Second, I recall reading an interview with the Bee Gees where they were hyping their soon-to-be-released movie St. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. They were making comments to the effect that people would soon think of the Bee Gees (and not the Beatles) when they think of St. Pepper's. They basically stated that they would be remembered as being more important and more significant in musical history than the Beatles. Uh, yeah...right. Back in those days, they weren't sending movies straight to video...but if they had...
Thus, I hereby resolve that I shall NEVER own a Bee Gees album.
Anyone else have any others??
