I think the rule was enacted to keep the daily thread from being too long. Many of us come here once a day. Lately there have been 3-4 new pages each day. That is manageable. I also subscribe to Jason's Schiit Happened thread, and today there were 15 new pages over there. That can become unmanageable and people drop off because of it.I'm not sure what the posts-per-page limit is, off the top of my head, but I've seen it get maxed out by multiple posts from one person. Let's say its 10 posts per page, which is regardless of post size.
If all those songs are in one post, I can see 9 more posts from other people on that page. If Joe posts 5 times, then that's half the page gone. And then because there's no 24 hour rule, Joe posts 3 or 4 times on the next page as well, and it becomes another page of Joes music. And not just Joe. Bob, Mark and Sam have followed Joes example. So quite often you'll be scrolling through four or five pages of two or three peoples taste in music. It's spammy and thoughtless, other peoples posts get lost in it, and the amount of pages you have to scroll through gets bigger and bigger.
The rule ensures that on three pages I'll be served a wide buffet of music, with some minimum of care and thought put into each post. With each voice given equal room. It discourages the twitchy old social media trap of spamming posts for likes. Getting hooked on that little pleasure-release of watching your 'approval rating' climb higher. Like-farming or whatever.
I've seen the 'Which headphone are you listening with now' thread turn into page after page of posts from only one or two people. There's at least one guy who rarely even changes headphones for all his different posts, which sorta defeats the point of having 'multiple headphones'. It just seems selfish and self-indulgent. I find it off-putting. I prefer the variety.
That's all I have for you right now, I hope it makes sense. Sorta bashing this out before I dash out the door.
It makes sense that one post here containing three albums or songs takes up less space than do three posts each containing one album or song. Happy listening!
For today, a suggestion from the Schiit Happened thread, thanks @US Blues.
Listening to the 3rd set and encore that feature members of The Allman Bros.
Song composed by Chuck Berry.
The instruments are perfectly recorded; I wish the voices were a bit more forward.
Had some lagniappe time, so exploring this new release. Recorded about a
month after Woodstock.
This album is tremendous ... highly recommended.
Song dedicated to Joni Mitchell. Graham Nash on the Hammond B3 organ.
The first time this song had been performed.
On to the electric part of the show.

Yeah, I've been around here long enough to remember this thread, before the rule. People, including me, were posting every individual song that they were listening to. I remember that the rule was imposed right around the time that Head-Fi went through some major server transfer/revamp. IMHO the experience here is much better with the rule than it was without the rule. Opps, sorry that was my second post in this thread today. However, my understanding, and I'm sure that the proof is somewhere several thousand pages back, but second posts were allowed if that second post was a reaction to, or discussion about someone's original post about the music they were listening to.

A lot of fine folks over there. I can catch up to three or four pages in the morning any more than that I just jump to the newest page.I also subscribe to Jason's Schiit Happened thread, and today there were 15 new pages over there. That can become unmanageable and people drop off because of it.
