Paul McCartney - "Egypt Station"

"Band on the Run" came out at around the same time I purchased my first set of headphones, and was consequently my first head-fi experience. The result - I was quite a fan of Sir Paul for a few subsequent albums. However I have not really followed his releases since "Silly Love Songs" (so for a long time). I purchased "Egypt Station" without any great expectations, out of curiosity (and because I liked the cover art!). Unexpectedly it has become a recent favourite, and as a result I have been delving through his other 21'st century releases, and have mostly enjoyed what I have found.

GFR released their first album in 1969. Fort Worth, Texas was still a fairly small city (or at least felt like it) in the 1960's and downtown went dead at 5:00 PM as it was mostly all office buildings, some minor apartment living, and a famous nightclub called the Cellar. Like turning on the lights and watching cockroaches scatter M-F. Nothing to do downtown on weekends - was scary vacant. Starting in 1967, Tarrant County, wanting to compete with Dallas for large venue events, built a new convention center in downtown Fort Worth in a little over a year. How about that lack of red tape! Looked like a spaceship. Held about 18K or so including the floor of the arena. Saw GFR there late 1969 with my girlfriend. Sophomores in high school and she was my first music concert date (though I had been to others with male friends or solo). On the floor, standing in our chairs the whole concert. For 3 guys they put on a helluva' show. My date wasn't bad either! Memories.......
