That's when a total solar eclipse's path crosses the contiguous US for the first time since 1979:

And, what's more, it's part of what this guy(http://www.hermit.org/Eclipse/) is calling the "USA Eclipse Bonanza," where several tse's will be in the US over a relatively short time span (one flies over pretty close to me in 2045

Wait a second, that's my 32nd birthday
EDIT: the eclipse isn't until August 21st, so it won't be my birthday

I hope I have my PhD by then. Regarding the eclipses, never seen a total one, only partials so far, and since they are in the States, I will most certainly be taking eclipse expeditions to go see them. Eclipses fascinate me, and I have to go see what everyone raves about when describing totality.

On another note, there is something far more rare than a total solar eclipse. In 2012, you will see Venus transiting across the Sun. This happened recently on June 8, 2004, but before that, had not happened since the late 19th century. I was fortunate enough to see the tail end of the transit from Ohio, and had probably the most memorable observing experience of my life then. After 2012, the transit won't be seen again for well over a century. Best part is, the best views of the transit are seen from Hawaii and that area. Great time for a vacation!

I might be alive to see the one in 2078. I'll be 91 and one of the most senior members of Head-Fi by then
