I really like my Sony SA5000s but for certain music, mainly minimalist ambient like Biosphere & Eno, it can sound very very thin.

So I have been using my Senn 457s for laying in bed, but I am just curious, I know the SA5000s are thought of as some of the most "Cold" and "Thin" phones so what is the opposite?

I thought about the 580s maybe, but I am open to anything.

Thoughts?

Yep. Could not be much more opposite of the SA5000. Think molasses.

EDIT: Looks like there is an S and DF, I am assuming you guys meant the 240S and werent saying 240s as in plural :P

Wow, 600 ohms, wonder how far I will have to turn up the volume knob on the Gilmore Lite.

How do they sound compared to like the Senn 595s or the senn sound in general, are they detailed?

No, the K240-Capital-S (Studio) is the really thick sounding one. 55ohms. I haven't heard the HD595s, but the K240S is going to be a lot closer to the Senn signature. Their mids are more striking, but the bass is fat and loose and the trebles are rolled-off.

Edit: Yeah, you figured it out.

Was going to suggest the earlier Audio Technica Wood (W10VTG and W11JPN), the thickest, creamest, warms sound I have heard from a headphone... but seem W1000 is a good alternative too... (I have no personal experience with the W1000 yet.)

I would recommened either the HD-650's, or the W100's..

I would disagree witht he w1000's though...to me, they kinda sound like a closed version of the sa5000's, with its speed, detail and clarity in exchange for some warmth and body.

Hehe, if that's the modded K340 you're talking about, you ain't heard nothing yet until the stock K340 experience.

Stock K340 would be the anti-SA5000. I mean it's sooooo unapologetically, proudly warm, lush, bloomy, and Rich, I should really pick up another K340 just to have the stock sound option for those cozy moments.

Audio-Technica W-100's (not the W1000's!) - hands down.

I think HD650 can be consider may be one of the opposites. It sounds pretty thick, more bass less treble.

W100 sounds thinker, more organic than W1000. To my ears, W1000 sounds slightly more aggressive version and tad bit recessed version of CD3K or closed version of SA5K with well damped wooden closure.
