I would have to say that the AKG K340 Electrostatic-Dynamic Systems headphone should be included in the top 5 most innovative headphone designs ever.....
What other headphone designs could be included in the top most unique and innovative designs? By design i mean engineering and method of sound reproduction design, NOT aesthetic and looks design.

I don't have of these and I've never heard it.  I just know about it.  Its a piezoelectric Heil AMT.  It need fairly high voltage so the company sells a transformer box to run off a speaker amp or something.  Apparently some people run them off of 'stat amps.  They don't need the bias voltage though.

All of those except the K1000 are just incremental improvements on an older design.  Not very revolutionary.

Are those the ones that were used for the school hearing tests that were given to us in elementary school....it was around 1967 or so, and i remember smelling the natural rubber pads on those headphones.

Is this the first headphone to use memory foam? If not, what is? I don't know why on earth it took forever to have a headphone made with memory foam pads.
Without these pads, these headphones would not have the same amount of bass. Basically you could turn many headphones into a bass monster using it's shell.
I've even tested this. The only other headphone I can think of with memory foam is the KRK KNS-8400.

Regardless of how you feel about them, the PFR-V1 is completely unlike anything else.  In fact Sony has often been willing to try creative designs.

Isn't the PFR-V1 pretty much just a miniature K1000 or am I missing something?

The bass travelling through the metal is pretty unique, and really does actually work (if a bit uncomfortable).

XB series doesn't have memory foam imo.

The foam returns to normal everytime.
