according to some sensaphonics is comming out with one that will be better... or at least could produce 3D imaging.

The best IEM's are the ones that sound best to you i think. Be that custom built UE-10's or off-the-shelf pair of Etys...price doesn't always mean performance. (look at the Koss KSC-75's

not everyone likes the amounts of bass produced by the etymotic er4's. they are very detailed though.

i personally prefer the shure e5's. granted not as much detail, but actually productin bass is a worthwhile thing.

the ue 10 (or 5's) are probably nicer, but eeh i dont know.

On my world UE10s reign king.

In some worlds the residents prefer e2cs
I've been to another world where they adored their koss plugs.

Of course you could go the Sensaphonics 2X-S (just US$750!) - once again custom made.

Of course if you are young (<16-18) you don't want to get custom mould earphones b/c your ears are still changing shape rapidly and you'd need a new pair every year or something like that.
