What are some well recorded new albums?

I don't know why, but most of the stuff by Richard Cheese (who does very funny Vegas lounge-style covers) sounds *very* well recorded to me.

Also, I'm listening to Sublime right now, and it sounds great.

In contrast, Oasis' (What's the Story) Morning Glory is one of the worst recorded albums I've heard... Mush, mush, mush.

If your into a little Jazz, Pat Methany Group's "The Way Up" was recorded really well. I find it wonderful to listen to after hearing some not so great mp3's that I own...

Also, my favorite, but not new, the Smashing Pumpkin's "Mellon and the Infinite Sadness" was recorded really well, which shows on such songs as "Porcelina", "In the Arms of Sleep" and "Farewell and Goodnight." It's a great album to own.

The music forum would be the place for this. Personally, I haven't really run into hot production on most of my newly-acquired albums. I guess it could be my music tastes - primarily psychedelic electronica these days, with some classical, classic rock, and acoustic/electric guitar.

I've found that Shpongle have continually set the bar for production in electronic music. Their last album, "Nothing Lasts," is a phenomenal display of sound engineering, all of it's musical merits aside. But, given that Shpongle record predominantly in analog, using many vintage analog synths, I would expect it. They're purists through and through.

Also, suggest checking out the Italian Job sountrack. Some well recorded music with a full orchestra and other added instruments including a lot of percussion. I imagine it would sound amazing on any headphone. Give it a go. The bass is really tight and not boomy, so if you need a track to test out your bass, go with "Venice Gold Heist" Track three. I have listened to it on POS headphones (cause thats all I have right now...) and they sounded good, even on them. Don't encode to mp3 tho, it won't sound as stellar.

Interesting thread as about one third of the CD I buy are really badly recorded and I wish somenone would warn me.
Not many recent album paricularly well recorded. I would say:

For jazz: Bela Feleck and the Flectones - Live art - Double live CD, not really recent, but outstanding quality

For recent recording of mixed genres some good recording are:

Cat Power - The greatest
Kate Bush - Areal
My morning Jaket - Z
Richard Hawley - Cole's corner
Kraftwerk - Minimum maximum (double live)
Howe Gelb - 'sno angel like you
Alejandro Escovedo - The boxing mirror
Fiona Apple - Extraordinary machine

You might not like the actual music, but IMO those are all safe recordings

Fairly New:

Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams
Fischerspooner - #1
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of The Moon (SACD layer)

and that is it so far. If I remember some more, I will post again.
