Just curious. Mine are on their way out for delivery right now. I've never even heard a phone by audio technica so I have no idea what to expect. Just really curious what other cans they're comparable to in terms of overall quality....

The AKG K81s are the closest I've heard. The ES7s sound great but they had some ergonomic issues for me. The pads were not very comfortable on my ears (too narrow maybe) and the headband is made of an annoying sticky rubber. Also, the metal cups are fingerprint magnets and you may feel silly wearing them as the headband sticks out on the sides.

Agree on earpads, they are not padded enough, wonder if they can be replaced with something like senns velour for HD25, not sure if they are even removable though. Sticking headband is easily remedied by some bending and I just put some carnauba wax on the cups to help with fingerprints problem.

You can bend the band so they stick out less. As to the headband rubber -I was wondering, would something like the replaceable Beyer Dynamic pads be suitable/right size to pop onto the ES7 band?

Carnauba wax, like they use in candy or Smarties? How would you do this? Interested to hear more - I'm guessing you polish it in?

Yep they finally arrived. I guess they compare closest to my rp-21's. They both about just as good.

Just a bump to say that I'm dead impressed with the ES7 -had em a week or so, but only had the chance to burn em in for 10 hours or so. However, they are one sweet little headphone! Nice bass, open, airy sound, good top not too bright but detailed. A touch hard in the upper mids I thought at first, but that's going now. I would not believe I'm listening to a closed portable...

What compares? Nothing I've heard in that category & at that price point.

I'm thinking about padding the headband (it's not uncomfortable, but I like to tinker). Anyone know if something like the Beyer pad will fit?
