I like the PX100's but I need another cheap portable pair that I won't have to worry much if I break them and are good at isolating outside noise for when Im walking around the city, @ the gym, etc, and have good sound.. NO IEMs. I wanted to get the AKG k26p but everyone says not to!

Those would have been perfect had they not that jacked up bass everyones talking about.

I mainly listen to electronic music with heavy emphysis on bass. But also some acoustic and classical stuff.

Yes, for those of you who noticed I did post a similar thread. This ones a little different. I thought people might be able to help if I rewrote what Im looking for.

What about the AKG K27i? I heard they have good bass and are certainly superior to the K26p and PX200, and are smaller than the K81DJ. I personally own the PX200, they do a good job in the gym and daily commuting on buses. PX200 seals well if you don't have huge head or ears, and they'll stay on pretty well when jogging etc.

What happened to the K81DJ? Have you decided not to get them?

EDIT: Oh by the way, PX200s are no good with bass though.

I heard they break easy and I dont want to risk being active with them. Otherwise I would DEFINATELY go with them for sure!

Can anyone else recommend the K27i? I read one bad review on sound quality saying it was actually inferiror to ks6p but it could have just been a stupid review....

Are they good at isolating outside sound? Can you confirm that? I heard they aren't.

Yup that first review verified it. Other than in looks they're exactly the same headphone as the k26p but they have a resistor in the signal path that makes the sound worse. BUMMER

I like the looks of these

The ill effects of a single extra potentiometer is hardly end of the world material.

Depends if you get a good seal from them. For me, I've had mines for nearly 2 years now, they don't isolate as well as IEMs as you probably already know. Though it blocks off most sounds you can still hear cars and traffic if you wear without the music on, obviously attenuated however. When the music is on, you won't hear anything else other than your music (unlike earbuds).

Wearing them on the plane, without music on you will still hear the engine quite clearly as it doesn't really block sounds from the lower spectrum, and people close-by talking softly. But I got some good sleep with them, even without music, just to block out a majority of sound.

BUT, with their size, they are limited to work on people with small enough ears, I've heard a few complaints where they don't get good seal and that kind of deteriorate the SQ as well. So I'd suggest you try them out before hand. They have good build quality, comfy and are pretty durable.

Hope this helps.

I've used PX-200s for years and while they are a great small, portable, DURABLE, closed set of cans I wonder if there isn't a better option?

They don't have particularly good bass (esp. if you don't have them positioned right), they don't block out that much more noise than the PX-100, and the have microphonics unsuitable to outdoor activities (just wind blowing by is picked up -- maybe the behind-the-neck strap of the PMX-200 is better in that respect).

They do sound great otherwise, and I'd otherwise recommend them right away, but maybe it's worth checking out some others based on your intended use.

if at all possible, go give the ATH ES5 a listen. very musical esp in the mids with decent bass, good prat and smooth highs. not at all sibilant. runs seriously loud unamped with most DAPs.

the build quality is bulletproof and folds into a <4" circle to fit in its own pouch. about similiar money as the PX100/200

The philips HP460 provides much better isolation than px200 and similar isolation to k26p while sounding much better than k26p and not as good as the px200.

There aren't too many good compact, portable closed cans around.
I would suggest an IEM...

I also notice the PX200 picking up the rubbing noise with wind or anything rubbing against the earpads significantly. So yea, they're no good if you're running outdoors, but gym is completely fine.

I use my PX200 as my main portable cans.
I like their sound signature, and I'm also getting a good amount of bass through it. It also isolates pretty well. I guess I'm one of the lucky guys who get a great fit with the PX200.
Other ones to look for is ATH-FC7 and k26p, which I think the FC7 sounds a little better with a slightly more forward Grado-like sound signature.
