What an INSANE Beach to visit!

These 12 photos of St Marteen Airport, French West Indies . The planes impress most people on the beach, flying over just seconds before touching down at Princess Juliana airport. Paradise for the beach lovers, having a lovely tropical beach, and for the aviation fanatics that spends hours on end observing the very low flying skills of giant commercial plane pilots.

12 Boeing 747s operate daily to St. Marteen. The heavy jumbo is the most impressive of all and attracts the looks of everybody around.

I dont even want to think about the number of safety reasons why that beach should be closed off. The noise must be horrendous and the possible horriffic accidents that might happen if someone or something catches the turbulence put out by one of those engines.

Thats insane, the authorities should be given a damn hard slap.

There is a video floating around somewhere that shows a plane taking off from that same runway, blowing people off of the beach and into the water.

And here it is: http://djstelios.wordpress.com/2006/...-nearby-beach/

Living by midway airport this is just not really big, not to sound ****y but stand on the corner of 55th and Central or 63rd and Cicero and you'll see planes come very low on landing and take off.
see how close you can come to the run way on this site..

in fact Dec 9th will be the one year ann for the plane that ran off the runway on to 55th and Central..killing one small boy. sure you can google pics and news stories, the entire neighborhood was very sad for the boy..

Lucky for me I am a few block away from the airport and not in the landing zones, though I have seen low flying fighter jets once over my house.

and I think I read somewhere the airport from the pics had closed off the beach recently cause of safety.

edit!!!! holy crap you can see my Audi TT parked infront of my neighbors house in the second pic...hahahahaha

Those people aren't actually being blown off the beach. They are running into the water to avoid the debris and sand the jet wash is kicking up.

Interesting video anyway.

My honeymoon was there! And yes that beach exists - we sailed by it (and flew over it) but weren't crazy enough to tan there!

Yeah, totally nuts. Some pics of the same beach were also posted in another thread here, it was mentioned by someone here that portion of the beach is now currently closed.

As of last March it was still open. Actually, it is a beautiful beach, irrespective of its proximity to the runway on St. Maarten. My dad and I enjoyed a drink at a tiki bar located adjacent to it while watching planes land.
