Shooting at Aurora Mall

We've all read about stuff like this in the newspapers or on web sites or seen it on TV. But it's different when you hear gunshots 100 feet away from you and aren't sure if you are hearing what you think you are. The staircase they are describing in the article is around 50 feet away from the storefront where I work. I didn't see it happen but I did see the results. Before I left my store me and my coworker saw the body of the lady who was killed on the staircase, and only 10 minutes or so before there were paramedics huddled around her, so we knew before the news crews did that one life had been claimed. It's still kind of surreal to think about it happening so close to where I work, and it's definitely not something I ever want to happen again. Seeing an older lady with a wound in her chest being helped out the door near where you see blood on the floor is something you see in movies, not in person. It still isn't comprehensible to me why someone would do something like this, but it makes those things I've read and seen on TV much more real, much more so than I would have cared for.

Ugh! At least you are fine Donovan. Try and chill out a bit, okay? Maybe you should take a couple days off.

OMG Donovan! This type of thing is so difficult to see first-hand. Don't feel awkward asking the PD for some counseling; they have professionals available that can help talk. I would definitely do that before you go back to work and take a few days off. Your employer has to comply with this in that situation, so do not worry.

Hang in there!

Sound like superb police work in catching the shooters before they escaped. Thank God that off-duty officer was a witness to the scene. These guys will hopefully be put away for life, at a minimum.
