A friend looked over my collection, and asked which 25 albums would I take to a desert island.  (Why is it always a desert island?  A cabin in the mountains works for me!)  I narrowed my selections to 38 rock discs, 12 jazz, and 10 classical.  As 25 is an impossible request, 5 is "for the moment" only.

Concierto   --   Jim Hall
Black Market   --   Weather Report
Abbey Road   --   The Beatles
Strange Kind of Love  --  Love and Money
Deja Vu   --   Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Most probably cause a desert island gives you the feeling that you will get stuck there forever, while if you're in the mountains you can just walk back to civilization?

There has been much written on this thread about classical music and opera in particular. That is fine and it is music which I love, although far from exclusively. Since I am heading down the lonely road of music processor design, and since I am in a testing phase at this time, a survey is in order. I have but one survey question, which is what are your 3-5 desert island discs? This is a serious question – not just so I may evaluate, but learn to do so on this project which is so new to me. Thanks!

Here are my suggestions. These are not chosen for audiophile recording quality - I just happen to like the music:

ABBA - Super Trouper
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were here
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
Kraftwerk - Radio-Activity
Bryan Ferry - Boys and Girls

Haken - Aquarius
Haken - The Mountain
Devin Townsend Project - Epicloud
Project 86 - Drawing Black Lines
Stratovarius - Episode

Yes, I have a very unique taste in music. :)

Right on! I saw DTP last year with fallujah and BtBaM. He rocked and said hilarious stuff between songs.

- Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense
- Bob Marley & The Wailers - Legend
- The English Beat - I Just Can't Help It
- Southern Culture on the Skids - Dirt Track Date
- Junior Wells - Hoodoo Man Blues

and if I could sneak 5 more into my wife's luggage:
- Professor Longhair - Crawfish Fiesta
- Elvis Costello - My Aim is True
- Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow
- Van Morrison - Moondance
- Santana - Abraxas

Tastes differ, but that's some music *I* can listen to over and over and over and over.

I think Mike wants to calibrate the MP with our selections.  Recall that it works with western music -- it makes assumptions about how music is "built" theoretically to work its magic.

Pink Floyd -- DSOM
Dire Straits -- Brothers in Arms
Steely Dan -- AJA
Genesis -- Wind and Wuthering
Genesis -- A Trick of the Tail
