Hi folks, I'm in a bind here. I've got this headphone, see, and it looks just like a Stax 404, only I'm damn sure it isn't. Now maybe I've just been enjoying my St Patty's Day a bit too much, but I ain't been seeing no leprechauns yet, so I decided I better ask dem folks over at Head-fi if they can diagnose my problem for me.

What'dya think, Head-fi? I know it looks like a 404, but I'm possitive it ain't. Any suggestions or leads?

... you have the cans sitting there in front of you and you're asking people to try and ID them?

Based on the photo.. I'd say they are a 404.... or at least a re-badged version of one.

?????

what am I missing?

Housings look rather thick for a Lambda, though it may just be the angle in the photo.

Hmm... sorry, mate, whatever it is is beyond my meager world of knowledge... are they some sort of Chinese clone?

Regardless - the key question - how does it sound?!?

Can you turn one upside down plz, the fat side of 404 does not look as pleasant as the skinny side.

The ones on the right look a little thicker to me but other than that they look exactly the same.....

They sound like different headphones.

Oops, didn't realise I did that. Yes, same dimentions, same colour.

Heh, I think you hit the nail on the head for the thickness difference. And well-said too!

I think he wanted to know if its better or worse or? xD
Is there any headphone you have it sounds similar to? Because it could be different drivers in the same chassis.

Well, they definately have that Lambda-series sound, and yet the presentation is quite different. I'll need more time to think of a means of describing it, I think.

The drivers both look the same (the red kind, for those in the know about Lambda drivers). And yet the sound is very different. Most confuddling....

Hm. So can you pick up any similarity to any of the other Stax you have?
