Personally, I'm quite wary of the FOTM thing, because I've been burned before.

i was also burned with the ck10 FOTM,but i learned from this.wait 2-3 months before purchasing the new thing, atleast thats what i will do from now on.

i dont know if the sm3 is a fotm or not, but the more reviews the better.

@search: I would love to meet up if that ever happens but if you like cold it's best to stay away for a long time. The humidity has been killing me the last couple days

Well good thing the OP already bought the SM3 before all this started or this thread would have been wasted.

I have a go with my friend's sm3 a few days ago and I have to say it is a joy to listen to. Some call it a um3x with much better soundstage and I won't say they are wrong but there is more to it than just that. Like the um3x both did sound like they are made for stage monitoring but the sm3 is much much more musical. Unlike the um3x it does not have forward mids or rather it is only forward when the song is recorded this way. The treble on the sm3 has much better extension and it does sparkle when the songs call for it. As for the bass the sm3 is much faster, more precise and better controlled than the um3x. Imaging on the sm3 is phenomenal. The extra soundstage does give a sense of 'you are there when it happens' kind of feeling which you don't really get with the um3x. The most amazing thing about the sm3 is how musical they are even though they are one of the most neutral phones currently on the market. Make no mistake the both are great stage monitor but as an earphone, the sm3 is much better.

The SM3 really is looking promising and like the UM3X, IE8, CK10 and e-Q7 that preceded it, it too has earned the right to be labelled FOTM. However, time will tell if it enters the pantheon of legendary universal earphones. Is there such a pantheon?  Who knows.  But as an interested fence sitter, I feel indebted to the early adopters. For it is those foolhardy, impulsive, earphone obsessives who recklessly and repeatedly put their wallets on the line and consequently, pave the way for the Head-Fi community at large. Here's to you early adopters! You know who you are.

Call it whatever you want.  For me, the bottom line is when I got the SM3 and let it settle in, I knew nothing else would get ear time, so no need to keep anything else.  While I did like and enjoy many other IEMs, I didn't feel that way after about the CK10, CK90Pro (after modding), RE252, Copper, FX700, e-Q7, GR8, TF10, etc.  My auditions with many IEMs left me not wanting them such as the UM3X, SE530, and W3.  Time will tell, but I am extremely confident the SM3 will have much success for a long long time.

I'm confident that the SM3 will stand strong 3 months, 6 months, even a year from now. Quote me on it.

I have decided not to cast a vote in this poll as i do not own the um3x and have never heard it and have no intentions of ever getting it, however i do have the SM3 and all i can say is i am totally blown away by its sound quality and in the way it molds itself around the music that is flowing through it at any given time .

.Since i have had the SM3 i have not had any desire to go back to any of my other phone's and i am not sure i ever will ,as good as some of them are they just can not compete with the SM3 on all levels. To me the SM3 sounds like the best bits off several other top tier universals on steroids

Unless some breakthrough in technology in the iem world comes along and a new revolutionary iem comes out i can not see myself buying any more iem's for a very ,very long time.

LOL. that's why I'm hoping you don't mind the cold, my son gets back from the sandbox in December.
It will be a winter visit, most likely after the 1st of the year.  It's even humid as hell here, but I know it's at least a bit worse there.

You're getting snowed by a poster who is getting many of his posts reported. Just a word to the wise. Sumflow is not your friend.

Thanks for the heads up, I knew the guy was a bit odd when he sent me these super detailed pm's trying to get me to buy the um3x then when I purchased the Miles Davis he got all worked up and like got offended and started attacking my purchase and reasoning... I'm just ignoring him, he can insult me and Monster all he wants, I've done my homework on the Miles Davis, so I know I'm getting what I, ME, MYSELF, really wants... LOL... I was just trying to be nice to him in the above post I do not want the westones, nope, sorry...
