Hi all! (first-time post)

I'm going Friday to the audiologist for impressions for custom in-ear monitors. This will be primarily for performing music, however I will certainly use them for personal listening as well. I'm primarily an acoustic guitar performer/vocalist, and I've decided to use Westone monitors.

I'm trying to determine which set to get, as this will be my first experience with custom monitors. I believe anything will be mind-blowing to me compared to floor wedges.

My question today is in regards to the comparison between the Westone ES3 and the ES3X? And while we're at it, would it still be a good move to even go with the duals (ES2)? I want to get the best bang for my buck, so I thought I'd ask experts.

I appreciate (in advance) your opinions.

Thanks.

I personally own the ES3X, and it is very smooth and balanced. It has a slight bump in the mids to make the vocals slightly more forward, but the highs may seem like they're slightly rolled off depending on which IEMs you're coming from (I came from CK100, so it was pretty obvious). Despite that, the highs are very detailed and non fatiguing.

ES3, is mid oriented IEM, designed specifically for guitars and vocals.

So if you're looking for a more balanced overall sound, ES3X should be a better choice.

And lastly, the ES3X sounds amazing

lol he said he was a guitar playing and vocalist.. and you mentioned the ES3 is more specifically for guitars and vocals.. yet still said get the ES3X.. lol I just found that funny.

Well, Basically the ES3X is the better model, if you can afford it. it will sound amazing.. you could always get the ES2 to start. but if you're getting customs, and impressions and all, might as well go all out now and get the best.

No because he said he will use it for personal listening too, which ES3X should be a better choice. I personally find ES3X mids pretty bang on for vocals, I don't think ES3's even more forward mids will sound as good.
