Just wondering if anyone has heard anything further about these very promising earphones. We were all excited about them at the Colorado meet early this spring, but they seem to have disppeared off of the radar!

The Westone site just says "coming soon," the same thing that they have been saying for months now. Anyone have an update?

Earphonesolutions has a May statemnt from Westone saying "the earphone has been delayed due to technical difficulties with product packaging."

Huh? I bet Craig Lester, who won a free pair with custom fit at the meet would be more than happy to drive to Colorado Springs to pick them up, the heck with the packaging! What are they really talking about?

well, the triple-fi's took a loooong time, and the E500's first production runs, well, they, uh, had issues, so....

That would explain the liquidy, airy, and warm tonality =]

Vaporware is a software or hardware product which is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge, either with or without a protracted development cycle. The term implies unwarranted optimism, or sometimes even deception; that is, it may imply that the announcer knows that product development is in too early a stage to support responsible statements about its completion date, feature set, or even feasibility.

So you actually have a pair. How did you manage that? (And what was wrong with the packaging?

Oh, no hurry here.. I'm quite happy to wait for them to get them right. I was under the impression the packaging was the actual shell of the earphone as opposed to the box etc. Seeing as they do all the mold manufacture there, I guess they're in the fine tuning phase.

Hi Craig. Your explanation of what the "packaging" is makes sense. I wondered why they would hold up production because they couldn't get the box right!

I do feel sorry for all the people that pre-ordered them, though; it's a long time to wait when you already have $300-$400 invested. I would like to get a custom pair; maybe they'll be availabe by the time I have the money to spend.

Until they are actually available for purchase, your typed words are meaningless and have no merit.

The Westone 3 is due out the same week as DNF.

If I remember correctly, Ray Samuels typed up a short review of the Westone 3 a while back, so at least a few pairs made it out in the real world. They do need to hurry up with them, as I'm sure it's cutting into the sales of their other IEMs.

Yeah I think those that pre-ordered have suffered in this case. I'm pretty sure it'll be worth the wait though. Most reports have been positive so far

Ray tried them out at Westone when he came out for the Colorado meet this spring. They had a prototype or two but they weren't yet - and still aren't - in production. I'm still waiting to hear where Iron_Dreamer got his!

I thought they were talking about the retail packaging too, but read Craig's first post in this thread - "I [Craig] was under the impression the packaging was the actual shell of the earphone as opposed to the box etc."
