Recently my zune 30 and esw9 were stolen. I was very happy with them. Needing a new cell phone and after much research I have decided to buy a nokia n78 and westone 3. I have never cared for an iem, but after the stellar reviews and the $240 cashback price I have decided to jump. My question- what format that the n78 uses will maximize the sound quality of this pair? I do not want to carry another source. Again, I just want to get the best quality I can from this combo. Any ideas? Thanks.

imo just put 320kbps mp3 in, I think the N78 doesnt have much to offer anyway. I dont know if adding a portable amp can help though, waiting for expert's opinion

Yeah high enough bitrate, well encoded mp3s should suffice. I actually have the n78 and the music quality is pretty decent for a mobile phone. It also has a lineout for amp usage; might try an e5 and see how it performs through it...

did the n78 and se530 combo.
my opinion: never use those high end IEMs with phones, they only reveals how bad the phone actually is.( IMO, I prefer n78+mx360 to n78+se530)
A good source is very important, and I don't see these phones as good

how about using it with motorola rokr e8, samsung innov8 or i450? mine is i450 and i'm planning to buy a new earphones very soon. i noticed that the discussions here almost ignore mobile phones as stand-alone DAPs. cellphones nowadays are becoming competitive with regards to music and sound performance.
