As the title suggests, I ordered the PS-1's from Todd last week, and should see them in another week to ten days. Given the comments by certain people here whose ears I ultimately respect, and their very limited, and finite availability, I simply decided that I had to go for it.
I'm extremely happy with my CD3000's (my primary, every day cans) and the K1000's that I use for specific music. I also have an old pair of DT-931's that mostly see duty while gaming on the pc in concert with a micrphone.
Thanks to Heaf-Fi meets, I've gotten the chance to listen to just about everything out there (excepting an R10, which I'm frankly AFRAID to hear). I've also had the opportunity to listen, over a period of time, to the Sennheiser 600's, which just dont cut it for me (excepting maybe with the BlockHead) and the 650's, which are better, but still somehow lacking in "excitement". I like the Beyer DT880's, but not as well as my CD3000's, so why go there? And, with the problems surfacing with CD3000 drivers, inability to get replacements etc. I thought I needed a top flight set of cans to rely on. I had to face the facts that I am simply unlikely to ever be able to afford the R10's, and so, the PS-1's seemed the only truly viable and best option left to me. Granted, they cost an arm and a foot, if not an entire leg, but what can you do?
I cant wait to hear them, and hope I can adjust to the comfort factor of them. I did order some flat pads from Todd for them, so that should help, though I expect going from the plush, luxurious comfort of the CD3000's will be a bit of a challenge.
And, in the end, if I dont absolutely love the PS-1's (as I fully expect to), or have serious, unresolveable comfort problems, (which I dont expect) I can always utilize the extremely generous 30 day return option that Todd provides.
Now, where do I send my dues to Team Ramen? I'm going to need some of those recipes very soon!
