i just found out that my hole puncher under the desk effectively "hole punched" the cord on my dt770 pros.... gah i just bought these things a couple weeks ago too

on another note.. would i be okay if i just soldered and heat shrinked everything? maybe even shorten the cord while im at it?

Wow. That really sucks. And seeing as I don't have any experience with cables, I can't really make any recommendations, other than this may be a prime opportunity to get them completely recabled

damn....i say get some nice cables and get the whole thing recabled.

an electrician and also a number of car audio installers has told me that the less connections the better....soldered or not. its always best to have a complete full length cable instead of joint ones be it the same or better or worse cables.

hmm.. well the wires in the cable are kinda weird.. have some special coating on them and has fuzzy stuff on the inside. the funny thing is that the actual wire is about the same size as any cheap econo headphone, and the insulation is just an enormously thick insulated piece.

after heating up the soldering iron to fairly hot.. i put flux over the joint to be soldered. and heated the wire up so essentially the fuzzy stuff melted, and i was able to eventually put solder on it once the wire got hot enough. Heat shrink went over that. and another large piece over the whole deal, and bam, headphones work properly again... i would have recabled.. but hell i dont have money for that. if i had an extra couple hundred bucks i would probably do a dark beyer conversion.

i dont know if i lost any quality as i dont have my amp on me, i had it sent back for retweaking the gain output + some minor repairs. so ill give input to that later.. but ARGH! STUPID HOLE PUNCH! who would have thought....
