weird, unordinary, unique music recommedations?

I would also recommend Shpongle, or anything else produced by or with Simon Posford like Hallucinogen or Younger Brother. Shpongle is truly weird and psychedelic music, and the production is amazing on all of their albums. Great headphone music!

The Mars Volta is a prog-rock band with a unique sound.. I would highly recommend their first two albums to anyone who likes unusual rock music.

Uhmmmm what else.. Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, Medeski Martin & Wood, The Orb, Eat Static, and the album Bitches Brew by Miles Davis.

I listen to all sorts of weird bands, but these were the most accessible (and commercially successful) that I could come up with.. if you end up ignoring most of my list, at least try out Sphongle.

I haven't seen Akron Family mentioned- one of the better psych folk bands. Their self titled is excellent- very sparse, strange and addictive. I haven't really been taken by their follow-up albums like I was with the first however. I guess I'd say they are somewhere between Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear- more accessible than AC and more interesting than GB.

Haruomi Hosono & Tadanori Yokoo - Cochin Moon
1978 experimental electronic album by keyboardist Shuka Nishihara, and future YMO bandmates Sakamoto and Hideki Matsutake

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but thought I'd share something rare. I was desperately searching an electronic version of "Diamonds Are Forever" found on the original Sony Walkman TPS-L2 Demo cassette which I had not heard for about 30 years.

Finally found out it was done by Hideki Matsutake & K.I. Capsule and the track actually came from his own album "Digital Moon & Nazo No Mugenokai". This was re-released in 2003 as a limited edition CD. Even the CD is now somewhat rare and if one can find it, it sells for at least 2-6 times (new) to the original price but I managed to obtain one.

Other fantastic 007 cover tracks found on the album too.

Third Eye - Ancient Future (1993)

Some tracks are upbeat. Not like techno, just uptempo electronic. Hints of trance. Other tracks are chilled and moody. "Chemical Angels" still gives me goose bumps. One of my favourite electronic albums ever.
