I recently purchased a pair of JBL LSR305s to use as studio monitors / speakers for my desk. When I play audio from my computer to them, it works fine. However I also have a record player and my TV hooked up to them via RCA-1/4" TRS and I get really jacked audio. Music comes through clearly on the TV, but voices are barely audible and they sound like they're speaking into a tin can. The same thing happens to the records - the instrumentation sounds fine, but the vocals are practically gone. Can anyone explain to me in layman's terms what is going on / how I can fix it? I'm not great with this kind of stuff...

You're using a phono preamap with the record player, I assume? And have you tried other cables?

I wasn't using a phono preamp with the record player, and I thought that could've been the reasoning behind why that sounded weird. I have the AT-LP60 which has a built in preamp so I didn't assume it was completely necessary, but I might look into one for sound quality if nothing else. But the TV issue is still confusing to me. The cable I bought is brand new from Best Buy. The only thing that could be doing it cable wise would be the 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter, but I don't know how it could be that.

Make sure the adapter is plugged in all the way, that there's no EQ going on, and try different cables if you can. Monoprice makes great stuff. If the LP60 already has a phono pre-amp (RIAA equalization), I wouldnt try another preamp quite yet - definitely not a phono preamp or you'll get a very dark, muddy sound.

I thought it might be an EQ thing. Sound effects like wind and fans and things like that - ambient noise if you will - on the TV comes through the loudest. Everything else seems back in the mix, with the vocals / voices being the farthest. But I can't find any eq settings on the interface's software, and it still sounds amazing when I play music or even when I play Netflix, YouTube, etc. off of my computer onto them. It's just the record player and TV on their own that sounds weird
