I need a new webhost. I've been with midphase for a few years, they.. were good. but lately.. downhill.
I need some recommendations, primarily based on server reliability as I host e-mail accounts for about 30~40 immediate/extended family and friends.. dont need 3000GB storage or unlimited blabla.. just reasonable. I'm also looking for one with multiple domain support, as I've got 2. I've looked through a few, but would like some honest head-fi opinions. THANK YOU ALL.

(Arg, I typed up my original response and accidentally deleted it... I am a fool)

I was first with QualityHostOnline for a massive $12/yr, and they were a very good host. (I haven't checked their latest deals) My only problem was that they did not offer a lot of space (just 200MB), and every GB extra you wanted was another $2-4/month. They had brief downtime, maybe an hour every 2-3 weeks at around 1AM for me, so it wasn't much of an issue.

I'm currently with DreamHost who has been up 24/7 since I joined 18 months or so ago. Their control panel isn't lightening fast as I'd like, but they've been a solid host so far, and their tech support is superb. They aren't inexpensive, but they'll probably serve your needs.

Edit: Oh, I just remembered. If you can find a DreamHost coupon code (or just ask me for one) you can get your first year with them for a ridiculously low cost, although I can't remember what it is. I forgot to do it myself and I spent about an extra $100 that I needn't have.

DreamHost are absolutely terrible. Google "dreamhost sucks" or "dreamhost problems" there are a few nonsense pages, but there are a couple reallly well written ones (recent too).

I use Hytekhosting for my personal webpages, and PRQ.net for my personal file hosting. For my large site, I use a giga-international dedi, but they also offer colo and shared hosting.

On my abandoned list, Dreamhost and Midphase.

I'm interested with this thread as well. Btw Ed, what webhosting you're currently using?

and how were midphase when you tried to change your dns pointers? did they own our domain?.. they've just moved to a new data center.. not sure if this will eventually be a slow uphill for them, or down.. but, I'll need to figure it out soon.

thanks guys for the responses, and any further input is still appreciated

Hm, I haven't had to deal with IMAP/POP email, so I can't say much there. Perhaps I'll consider moving to a new host, I wouldn't mind paying less.

1and1 is pretty good, and here is a review site.

Seconded - I've been using them since they first opened up to personal hosting and I've been happy with the service, cost and interface.
