After modding my akg k501's they have become fairly bright, and on less than stellar recorded material, disturbingly so. I use outlaw PCA's with a max-out meta42 w/OPA637 opamps. I don't want to change amps because I want to get a smART DI/O in the future, which isn't which isn't known for it's warmth either, so I'm left with cables. Anyone know of warm cables that sound better or at the very least as good as the oulaws. Don't be afraid to post a link

I found low-end cardas cables to be quite a bit warmer than the outlaws, but perhaps a better move would be changing the op-amp in the meta to something that's known for being a bit on the darker side. Warm plus brightness does not equal neutrality.

BTW, how has burn-in effected the K501's?

They are not as bright as before break-in with more control in bass, subjectively but the sibilance on some tracks is a pain in the ass for me. I have to use the equilizer in foobar to get rid of it. The OPA637's are the warmest world class opamps that I know of, compared to anything from LT or AD anyway. Any change would be a step down in sound quality. I will probably put a 64ohm resistor in the amp and be done with it.

Just a thought, why not just get a decent hardware equalizer instead of a new set of interconnects?

I'm setting here listening to some Cardas Cross IC's I got on Audiogon ($220), and if you want warm... These things are like tubes in a cable - very warm, but not thick or opaque sounding. They have a very linear, neutral "feel" without being "cold" sounding. I imagine the Golden Reference really kick ass.

Has anyone tried the Cardas crosslink? How do they compare to the outlaws or other realatiely inexpensive cables? I'm looking for less bright with more bass and started to think of this one.

Kimber PBJ's? Unfortunately, they're not shielded, though, don't know if that's a problem...
