I wonder if any of you knows of any over-ears that, just as in the line of Sennheisers and perhaps the Mad Dogs, prioritizes the lows and mid-ranges for a warmer and more relaxed listening. There have already been some threads suggesting quite a couple of good pairs, but I'm also looking for ones that can stand the test of a more outdoor lifestyle.

All in all, I'm looking for a pair with one or some of these specs:

- Good on the lows and mid-ranges; a warm and relaxed listening;
- On or over-ears; closed-back;
- Portable, with detachable cable and mic, and, if possible, also made to be folded;
- Well-built; known to last quite a long time;

I listen to all sorts of music, except for the electronic genre.

It would be a mid-range headphone, going up to 300 dollars, max.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance!

I would recommend the NAD Viso HP50. A bit warmer than neutral without sacrificing clarity significantly. I'd say they meet all of your requirements except for maybe build quality; my pair has lasted me a good while but has always felt a little creaky to me around the earcups. If you take good care of them they should last you a long time.

This would be my recommendation as well

Thanks for that, guys. I've looked into the HP50 too, but have been somewhat turned off by the fact that, wearing it on a relatively small head as mine, it'd look as if I placed a satellite on my head.

True, they do tend to look dorky when worn

They do, indeed. :'-(

How about the Focal Spirit Professional? Do they compare to the HP50 somehow?

And if I were to get the HP50s, do you think it'd be possible to mod them?

The Focal Spirit Pro is a little more neutral than the HP50; they'll have less bass relative to the HP50, which may not be preferable given what you're looking for. Also, the ear cups on it are known to be quite small and the build quality is poor for the price, with headband cracking being a known issue.

Apparently it's pretty easy to take the HP50 apart, which makes modding easier, but they are so well tuned that I see no benefit from modding, honestly. (Unless you want to do a major overhaul of the looks, that is, but that would likely change the sound for the worse)

Thanks for that, tz0531. I thought so, too; the plastic headband definitely doesn't look very sturdy.

And have you ever tried the Focal Spirit One S? Would you say it has the same problems as the Pro?

Nope, never tried out the One S, so I can't give any feedback on it. Most reviews I've seen put it a notch below the Classic and Pro models in terms of sound quality, though.

I think i'd vote for for sennheiser momentum 2.0, warm sounding with excellent resolution, exquisite build quality - and looks amazing.

btw is NAD a respectable brand? My father has an old receiver that says NAD on it, is it the same company?

Momentum 2.  Warm sounding and built very well.  Very portable as it folds and comes with a case.  They were recently on sale for around $200.

Yeah, they've been around since the 70s
