For my type of music, vocal abd acoustic, really liking A-Ha's unplugged cd, which is the type of music I enjoy.
It seems open backs are more suited for this.
So am looking for a pair that can be driven straight from a DAP (A&KAK70) with a top budget of £200.

Suggestions most welcome!

Hi Dougan,

Are you anywhere near a store where you can go and demo headphones?

Under £200 you could get the 32 Ohm version of the Beyerdynamic DT880 or DT990

The DT880 are very neutral and revealing, the DT990 are slightly V-shaped with a little bass and treble boost.

You could also look at the Grado SR125e, which are superb but again best to demo before buying, as all of the headphones I have suggested have well presented treble that could be fatiguing to some ears.

If you can up your budget a little, the Sennheiser HD600 are excellent, but will be pushing your player to it's amp limits.

Many thanks for your reply.
That's the problem, there is nowhere I can demo them.
The dt880 sound promising, think the Hd600 may be a non starter, due to it being more difficult to drive.

There are a few places in the UK that you can test headphones, but I understand you may not be able to travel :)

DT880 are awesome, but as I said are a very neutral headphone

The HD598 is a nice relaxing headphone, perfect to start out with. You might be able to find a good deal on one for that price!

Look into the Philips SHP9500S - open back, very easy to drive, takes Brainwavz HM5 earpads when the originals disintegrate - and try to see if these are what you might like.
