While I've never own many TOTL iems, i have to agree that this is pretty much true. Technical abilities wise, those two that you mention pretty much rock the charts. However, if you take into account of your own preference, you might prefer one over the other.

Debating which is better is like arguing if chocolate is better than vanilla. There will always be a pro-chocolate camp and a pro-vanilla camp.

On a side note, Joker's reviews are not really meant to be taken literally, but more as a guiding post. He rates each IEM as objectively as he can and adds in comparisons with other similar price-point, performance-point IEMs. If you take a look at the Tier 1A, almost all of them have a rating of at least a 9 out of 10 for sound quality.

---

All said and done, why not tell us more about your current IEM? Then perhaps things like what you want to change/keep? Or even a brief description of your preferred sound signature. Then perhaps we can point you to one that will suit your taste.

To me, Unique Melody Merlin is the best sounding CIEM/IEM that I every heard, it's not the most expensive (but still is pretty expensive), you can buy either as custom, or universal (mine is the universal version).

Otherwise, the $1,500 Tralucent 1-Plus-2 IEM is, according to a lot of people, the best sounding IEM

What about the New King? Vision Ears V6 Xcontrol? 1900 Euro, only.

Unfortunately not many have the chance to audition, let alone own all the top of the line iem/ciem in the market, to truly say "the best ever" and convincingly so.

Even those who do, may be subject to bias and preference, even when blind test are conducted.

Rather than going for the "best", i'd say know the sound signature that you enjoy the most, and work towards owning the iem/ciem that perfects or offers that signature you love and more. This way, you will not only enjoy your music more, but get the best sound that your ears will appreciate.

I really can't say in regards to other brands, but the k10 performs well with a wide range of genres, and by your list of music preferences I'd say the k10 is a very safe choice.

I've tried quite a few customs and the UM merlins are the best I've heard also, even though far from the most expensive. The combo of dynamic and ba just works for me.

Might want to consider Tralucent 1P2, I was quite sceptic about this until recently when I had a chance to hear it...and if you have some spare money, get the uBer cable to go with it...
