thank you all for a very informative thread, but I still have some questions.

I have a Fiio X3ii, and am looking for a new DAP to upgrade the SQ.

So far, I am interested in the Walnut V2, Zishan DSD and Xduoo X10.

Could someone help me get an idea how they all compare to each other?

TIA

TO be really honest, I dont think the Walnut will be any upgrade. The current measurements show some terrible **** which does NOT mean it doesnt sound good, but the measurements are more $1 mp3 player like, but with lots of power and an extremely nice package. But many seem to like the huge distortion etc., I havent received mine yet so you will have to wait will you want to hear my impressions :)

I didn't make a recommendation because I haven't heard any DAP he asked about aside from the Walnut. Really we should wait for a Fiio X3ii, Zishan or X10 owner chime in. But please do wait for yours to arrive before saying it sounds like a $1 player... Anyway, I would argue that the Walnut frequency response has much more in common with a vintage high end receiver - very well regarded ones, even today - such as Pioneer SX-1250/1980...

Agreed! I took RTA measurements and posted here with the freq response of Walnut, C3 and Alien. They differed here and there but Walnut definitely didn't lack. As is with all things audio it's all about synergy. I like all the above with some phones and others not. Personal preference. I was immensely enjoying Walnut with GR-02 BE today, David Gilmour - Rattle That Lock. I can't wait until my Monk+ arrive!

Today most people want flat frequency responses for a good reason :) but don't misunderstand me! I think I'll really like the player, and I'm not sure it sounds like a $1 player but the measurements look like it. Also the impedance is a joke of course. Doesn't make it bad but not sure suitable for iems with low impedances.

The walnut creator needed convincing, he didn't want to do it, but somehow he agreed after some back and forth, mainly because of my slick English to Chinese google translate sweet talking skills

any chance you can convince him on a FW update to address things like:
1. support folder structure
2. shuffle play

=Plus I doubt anyone would correlate those graphs to the player and what they are hearing, especially if they had not seen them at all to begin with.
Does this change according to opamp in any way I wonder?

It's kind of like headphone measurements IMO, good to a point but mostly useless to me.

I'd likely be down with a capless one. or two :)
2 here now , 2 incoming but those are reserved for gifts.
Too many options to explore and fine tune  to not have one or two more. Plus if new housings are in order soon I will need at least 2 more for that.
I had better stock up on things then :)

*** For the PCB pictures T.R.A.N.C.E. posted I did notice also that going by the listing pictures they show only 1 larger cap where in all units now are differences
So those pics in all the listings are older as well.

Maybe the older ones will become collector's items when the player gets so popular it eventually forces iPods out of the market.

Aha. So thats why everybody's orders are all held up:)

I would really hope the opamp swaps would significantly alter the graphs.

I think that it was discussed before but cannot find out. Instead of creating folders, I am thinking to put each entire album in one WAV file so skip the album instead of individual song. Is there any program that I can put entire album into one WAV file? I am Mac user.

That is how I do it. However only Windows methods are discussed on page 1.... however can't XLD do this?
