Beside the Solti and Karajan sets, can any one recommend other complete ring cycle sets on cd? or is it better to get different parts and assemble your own set?

thanks

Classic Bugs Bunny, with Bugs as Brunnhilde and Elmer Fudd as Siegfried.

You haven't laughed until you've heard Elmer Fudd's recite the words "Kill da wabbit, kill da wabbit", sung to the music of Wagner's Ride of the Walkuries.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Solti's cycle benefits from John Culshaw's landmark sonic stage experiments. For headphone listening, I can't think of a better recording. Listening to Solti's Das Rheingold on cans is an awesome experience, and that is the first of four operas recorded for this cycle. By the time you get to the last of the four, Gotterdammerung, the Decca engineering staff take no prisoners.

The Bohm cycle is arguably performed better. Karajan is also top knotch and many people swear by Fritz Knappertsbusch (mono). None of these have everything in one package. For me, the engineering pushes the Decca recording to the top, even after nearly four decades. Culshaw puts you in the action of the drama.

Edit: I have to second the nomination of the Looney Toons version. "Kiw the wabbit; kiw the wabbit..."
