I know there have been several threads already, so sorry in advance, but likely because of the different ways the amp is referred to (Woo 6, Woo6, WooAudio 6, Woo Audio 6, etc.) I'm having trouble finding them. Could someone who may already have them bookmarked, point me to the best threads discussing drive and rectifier tube-rolling options?

Don't forget "WA6" which is the real name of the amp.

After 72 hours break-in with stock (Sovtek rectifier) tubes, the bass seems to have receded a bit and the lower treble become a bit prominent. The treble quality is improving, as if lower distortion. All along, it sounded wonderfully musical, but now has a little less body. I'm using HD650s with Cardas.

I wonder if this will disappear after 200 hours of burn-in. Tubes, capacitors, and transformers no doubt have different break-in times.

I also wonder if tube substitutions (or internal wire changes... was silver used?) might make it more neutral.

More reports, if not a full review, to come. Anyone in Silicon Valley or Bay Area willing to bring some high end phones and amps for comparison?

I have a couple of hundred hours on mine now and have finally dialed it in but just today.

I bought pairs of 6DE7's and stated I wanted only matched pairs (design and maker not electrically) but as usual I got some that were no where near matched, lazy.

Anyway I have a Marconi (old) that matched up with a Westinghouse (old) from a seller in Canada (These would be RCA's) which is where you will find the Marconi. These two by chance matched up even down to the longer than normal tip on top of the tube. So I tried them today as I just haven't gotten what I wanted out of the 6. They are a grey power plate section with a black driver section and and shield between, which some 6DE7's have and some don't. With these two tubes and my GZ34 metal plate the sound is very 3D, open and airy. Dynamic contrasts are extremely good as is tonal and instrument identification due to good harmonic and microdynamic contrasts.

Too bad these tubes are not easy to find but they are out there (the two that I have). I do have some Sylvania's that sound good also and will have to compare them now that the amp has more play time.

I would be nice to put in some fine coupling caps, which I am sure the amp would benifit from, though the stock ones seem fine but I can't always help myself.

Ok what I am coming to on tubes is that the RCA with the grey large plate (power section) and black smaller plate (driver section) with a shield are the most transparent and the best imaging. I found several more RCA's that I have and they are later versions but they are the same construction but the getter is the round plate type and not the open round type of the earlier version I have. I have some Westinghouse Canada that are the same construction as the early RCA's with the open round getter and all of these sound good. The GE have the power section at a 90 degree angle to the driver section but this does not work as well as having the shield. With no shield the sound is mor difuse and instruments not as well defined. There is an overal lack of cohesiveness as comapred to a tube with the shield, in my opinion.
