What is the best way to keep the wood portion clean? Is hot water ok?

generally speaking water on wood is a bad idea. ever see cup rings on wooden furniture? try a soft cloth. if that isn't enough, get some mild furniture cleaner designed for cleaning wooden furniture.

Intuitively, I would prefer a slightly wet soft cloth. Puck, have you read that in the manual? I can't understand anything of it because it is in Japanese.

do not use a woodpolish with Linseed oil in it. the wood will dry out with the use of linseed oil which is very common in wood cleaning/polishing products, looks great at first, but after a while... not so pretty.
