Hello,
So after trying DT1770 pro Philipxs X2, TH610's and now DT1990 pro i think i am starting to loose the will to find the right headphones.

The last ones DT1990 pro i felt were missing the vocal and musicality of instruments if that a way to put it. Liked the highs and bass, they are good not to much but just missing the vocals/instruments.. For instance the gypsy kings, where the heck is the melody of the guitar.. Moon River - A Duet .. have to wack up the volume before the vocals come out..

Dont know just not what i was expecting i guess. Read tons of reviews and Zreviews so on.. but just not musical headphones i was expecting. Loved everything else about them. So where do i go from here?

I am very confused at this price bracket as to what would fulfill my needs.

So i love the spaciousness, the bass the highs but want the vocals and mu

Would the sennhieser HD800 do the trick?
Fostex TH900?
LCD-2?
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It sounds like you want a headphone with forward mids, which happen to be my favorite sound signature also

I suggest checking out hd 600/650. They are cheap in comparison to some of the other headphone you asked about and are known for their mids. I had the hd 650 and they were some of my favorites with vocals, never tried the 600, but I heard they were very much the same, less dark though.

Secondly - Every consider trying some Grados? You're probably going to look at the price tag and laugh, but Grado sr60e's can be found used for around $50-$60 and have a VERY forward mid signature. Vocals and strings sound amazing on them and they really are a good value headset

So yea hd 600 or 650's if you want a little more bass. Grado's anything prestige line, though I recommend just grabbing the 60e or 80e if you're going to do that or check out the rs1/rs2e

Id say the 600's are miles apart from the 650's. 650's are a sound of its own class.

But yeah, the HD800 might just be the can your looking for. Sennheiser= mids for dayssss

You wont be disappointed with the HD700 as well

Cheers for the replies..

Yeah not sure about the grado's .. contemplating the sennhieser. HD 700 or the HD800 .. are the hd800worth the extra?
ive listened to both the hd700's and hd800 for a good few hours threw a wooaudio6

and to be honest I did not think the hd800's were worth that much of a price difference to what you can currently get the HD700's for.
That doesnt mean i wouldnt buy the HD800's myself, its just that I just think that the HD700s if found in good condition for about 280-300 bucks used makes the price for the hd800 a bit of let down
Theres been alot of people **** on the 700s in the past but you I was surprised how similar they were to the HD800

The mid's are just as important as the high's if you like vocals. Maybe you would like the Audioquest Nighthawk. Top class mid's IMO, warm and perfect for vocals and acoustic music.
Nighthawk sounds like speakers being played through about 20 walls and 50 pillows. Recessed to hell.

Some headphones need to be understood to be appreciated..
To my trained ears (i'm a musician), they have the warmest most natural mid's of any headphone i've heard (important for vocal/acoustic music).
Not really hard to understand. They're recessed in the upper mids; quite badly too. NH has good clean bass but is narrow as hell too. Way too congested and due to the recessed mids voices get burried, sound underwater.

You should try a phone that doesn't mute important cues to see how good voives can sound!

I have the Nightowl, and if they are anything like the Nighthawk, I'd stay away. Definitely very laid back. I'm selling mine to try the ZMF Atticus and Eikon.

Trying many different headphones over the years, it can be hard to find one that does it all. For me it was the hd-650, however even it lacked some dynamics I wanted. The Beyer Amiron filled the need better, very good vocals with more dynamics. Just a good all around headphone. However, everyone hears differently and everyone has different preferences. Wish I had heard these several years ago.
