So I've been suffering from derealization (dreamy state, cloudy head) for a few years now and finally decided to take some type of action. I was reading about it, and I have an appointment with a dr in the future, but I also read that it's caused by vitamin b deficiency. So of course I did the most sane thing anyone that doesn't take vitamins would do....I took a b complex! But it made me sick as a dog... flu like sick. I'm not sure if I should take anymore (2nd day taking them), or if it's something that will pass.

Has this ever happened to anyone when they've started taking vitamins?

Not me but if I was you I'd stop taking that complex until you have brought it up wi thte doctor and it has been oked. Of course I'd also tell him what happened,

B group vitamins should be pretty safe - unless you are taking crazy high amounts. They are water soluble so will not build up to any sort of toxic levels.

Go and see your Doctor, and take the B complex bottle with you.

Hopefully, it was just a coincedence that you got sick when you started on vitamins.

It sounds like another 'People now have this!' condition that we hear about nowadays, is all. No offense intended.

Nope. Recognized dissociative disorder. Section 300.6 of the DSM-IV.

x2
Pretty much true of any vitamins that you'd have to take HUGE doses to really cause trouble - even more so with the water soluble vitamins (not A,D,E or K).

Hmmm - I wonderin' what, specifically, "flu-like sick" means. Sensitive tummies could get upset if one takes a b-vite supplement w/o first eating, I'd imagine. I know if I were to take one on an empty tum, I'd be burpin' 'em up for a while afterwards. An event to be missed!

For flu-like symptoms... aches, headache...etc. Niacin CAN cause toxicity even though it's classified as water-soluble...at least at much lower doses than say B6, or any of the other b vitamins. Also, it describes what I'm feeling (reports of toxicity). I'm thinking that since I may possibly have a deficiency of my b vitamins, it would increase the chance for toxicity of some sort. Who knows though, it may have just been a fluke that I became sick the day after I took the vitamins.

Also, derealization sucks....it's like waking up in the morning...and the grogginess never going away- like you're watching your life on a TV rather than actually being there and living it.

I guess I probably would have had my doubts too if I didn't experience it firsthand.

A couple years ago, I took a Vitamin C tablet, and broke out in hives. Stayed away from them ever since.

Try taking a similar vitamin but a different branding/composition and see how you do.

Hey that's a pretty good idea...maybe the filler of those vitamins are tainted (I love that word). :p
