So a few of you guys have asked me repeated amounts of times about when I was going to post a picture of my recent score on a good thousand or so LPs...

Well, here's a picture!

I received this HUGE collection (I haven't come close to even BEGIN organizing all of them yet) from a very good friend of mine who helped me out a lot throughout my life (most memorably, got me an internship at a recording studio when I was 15!!). He told me that it was something he had to do, since he knew it would no longer bother him anymore. Well.. I now have discovered some very nice finds. A "Speaking in Tongues" unopened picture disc from Japan, which I checked can go for several hundreds of dollars. I also got a signed copy of Redman's first album (I can't make out the title, so...). It is pretty funny, because it's the only album even CLOSE to rap music in his collection - I pulled out two-hundred or so Miles Davis LPs and then this one ...

If you examine the unopened box to the far right (the one with the book on it

), closest to my record shelf, that is a box FILLED TO THE LIMIT with Miles Davis records, including two unopened copies of "Kind of Blue", one unopened copy of "Sketches of Spain", one unopened copy of "B+tches Brew", and one unopened copy of "A Tribute to Jack Johnson".

I have also checked on Amazon.com, and I have now concluded that every Talking Heads, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton (and Creme), Grateful Dead, and Jeff Beck LP in their ENTIRE discographies are now in my possession!!

All the other boxes on the ground... well... if they're not white, they're filled with records that haven't been organized yet. And there were a lot of boxes to my left and right that didn't get into the picture because I wasn't able to make them all fit in!

I feel so happy about this that I just had to share with you guys

Vinyl rules!

By the way, do you guys like my Garfield? I won him at a carnival recently that I went to with my girlfriend that I have yet to bring to her house

He's just so darn cute!

Edit: Wow mods, you moved this thread in record time!

That is very cool. I can get access to an even larger collection but it's in New Orleans and I haven't been able to get up there to check it out. You're going to wear out your needle playing through all that vinyl. Enyoy!

Looks like luck is on your side. Go play Lotto, who knows?

Wow, those old sealed ones are amazing. As with old stock tubes, it is hard to believe that this stuff is still hanging around in mint condition. Congrats!

It was an incredible feeling to open my first "Kind of Blue" from Miles Davis, and to play it without ONE tick, without ONE flaw - it was just beautiful, rich, and enjoyable sound that I have never experienced before (and probably never will again). It was bliss!

Thanks for the comments guys.

OPEN? ARE YOU MAD?

You know I'm just kidding.

I quite envy you with some pieces you have gotten there, god, all those originals. My lot of vinyls has been passed down from generation to generation (me being the first one that it's being passed down to), and even though my dad always took very good care of them, I would love to hear a freshly unpacked goodie. *crackle crackle*
Well, my turntable isn't something THAT special anyways, so mine do give me all I need for now.

Great stuff. I just got into vinyl recently, but have recently stepped up by ordering a Super Scoutmaster, Grado Statement and a VPI cleaner. I'm looking at 2 vinyl collections. One I'm buying for sure, but it won't be available for another 3 years. It is owned by a record station owner and contains almost every jazz vinyl pressing between 1950 and 1980. It also contains most of the original Blue Note mono pressings. The other collection is a bit more diverse and will require a bit more thought. Anyway, happy listening and great score!

I thought that for a while too. ToddTheVinylJunkie actually changed my mind.

"But Andrew, man! They're meant to be PLAYED!"

I thought myself that it would be crazy - but Kind of Blue is the only one that I have opened so far and I have another unopened one left, just in case

(the ORIGINAL unopened one that I received was unplayable - this guy obviously loved Miles Davis).

Sleestack: Wow! That's great! I mean, it's one thing to own a pop/rock station's discography ... but every Jazz record from '50-'80 is VERY impresive!

Britishbane: Thanks dude. I am still in somewhat of an aftershock effect right now ... I can't believe I have to organize and clean all these records!!

Do you have Jeff Beck, Blow by Blow? That must sound great on vinyl. One of my all time favorites.

Yep, I was actually listening to that yesterday. It's a fantastic album, and I am pleasantly surprised by ALL of Jeff Beck's records in how good they sound on vinyl. The guitar is so much more natural, the drums are amazing.
