Anyone ever compared the two? Ive never heard the ms-pro, but the things people say when comparing ms-pro to current prod. rs1 sound very similar to my conclusions from listening to vintage RS1 vs. current RS1.

ie. vintage RS1 is more neutral, or "baby" HP1000, less fatiguing, does better with flat pads, etc.

would be a great shoot out!

I've owned MS Pro, and still own HP-2, and purchased "semi-vintage" RS-1. My preference is toward HP-2, and this pair of RS-1/flats. I prefer their extension (although a month from 66 w/typical treble loss for the age). I don''t think they're that similar. All of that said - without the flats, to me, the RS-1 treble present a picture that is brighter than is realistic to me........I listen to a lot of female jazz singers.

Out of all stuff I've owned or tried (see sig), the MS Pro is the most natural. By far.

I owned them at different times with different sources so not a direct comparison and the vintage rs1 I had was very old production and vintage but not brown leather headband(some say they sound different). The rs-1 was definitely more colored than the ms-pro, I agree with nickchen about the ms-pros sounding more natural, I also think they are more neutral fully aware the two don't necessarily go hand in hand. The rs-1 was more exciting and felt more intimate as expected. Both great headhones, I haven't heard the hp1000 but basically the rs1 did not seem balanced in comparison to the ms-pros.

I find these RS-1's a bit too much for their treble with bowls. I'm wondering if MS-PRO's would fit the bill better? I like very much how RS-2's sound but would like to have more bass (RS-1 has it) and more extension in the treble but without spikes (MS-PRO?). I also like MS-1's very much.

Honestly, their differences are very minor. I'd try the RS-1's with flats first.

Owned: RS1 not vintage, MSPRO, RS2, HP1000(2)JGWB, HP1000(with switches)normal cable and PS1.
From all of them PS1 are the winner, all the way.
If my memory doesnt lie, I liked HP1000 more than HP1000(2), but thats not an issue up here. Also have heard RS1 without serial number on them, not brown headband, and really liked them, so if you can hunt real vintage one, do it. MSPRO are not bad, but they are nothing alike HP1k, they do not have such punch/bass and neutrality. I would call them flat sounding, compare to RS1, PS1 or HP1k. My idea of their sig is between RS1 and RS2, but less colored, so can really call them musical or fun.

I would say, get PS1, period...

For me, it's the vintage is the best grado and I've most of them including the hp2, PS1, and non-vintage rs1. The PS1 is special and 2nd favorite, but it's too specialized with the xtra bass. When I owned both, I still used the vintage rs1 since it was more balanced of the two...sometimes to the point where it distracted me from the music.
Haven't heard the MS-pro in a really long time so can't really say, but I don't think I liked it too much given that I never owned one. I'll make sure to check it out at a future meet if one shows up though...

the vintage RS1 is certainly a very nice headphone, as is the PS1. i prefer both over the HP1000.

I prefer the MS Pro over the PS1. I've listenend to both on a meet and bought the Alessandro later. The PS1 may be more impressive for pop music or so, but the MS Pro's "Live like" presentation and great genre bandwidth was more important to me.

Wrong or not, you will be hearing soon...but MSPRO are not like RS1, imo.

They're a RS-1 that has been tweaked, you'll love them.
