It might be a piece of hair in the driver?

i know, i know...

Im hoping its for the good.

Its not a hair on the driver. A single hair on the driver doesn't make it completely lose its sound and reduce it to a soft buzz.....

Hmmm... sounds like the voice coil is damaged. Both drivers will have to be replaced since they need to be matched. I wonder if you could make the best of this opportunity and see if someone is willing to fit HP1000 drivers in your RS-1

Someone must have spare HP1000 drivers...

There aren't any more HP-1000 drivers unless you want to sacrifice a pair.

Earlier this year, there was a controversy with a shady character passing off a HP-1000 with RS-1 drivers on eBay. Those were tracked back to a pair owned by a member here that Grado Labs put RS-1 drivers into due to a blown driver. To be clear, the shady activity had nothing to do with Grado or the member here. They were honest about it, but the headphones changed hands several times and got into some bad hands.

Anyway, there aren't any spares left. But I do think the RS-1 driver is pretty special itself.
