My college son is trying to put a small system together for the fall (single dorm room). He has a great set of phones (Audio Technica ATH A900's) and we'll put a turntable system together too (I have older Philips 829 he can have; need a cartridge), as well as the necessary cd deck. I'm wondering if there are some vintage used integrated amps (Audiogon, etc) I should look at that deliver both a decent phono stage and a good headphone amp section. He doesn't need much power, just some good quality (I've spoiled him with good headphone sound through various Ray Samuels, Headroom , Xin home and portable headphone amps, etc.). Thanks

Wow, I forgot about the 1060. I owned that amp for quite awhile.... during college, I think. I loved it. Anyway, thanks.. Receivers are possible candidates too, I guess.

There's a 1060 in the For sale Forum right now, if you're interested.

And I second the Shure M97xE cartridge.......great cartridge for the money.
Hope this helps.

That's my amp, and I think it would be most appropriate if it ended up back in a dorm room where it began

BTW, it has a built in phono pre-amp for the turntable.

Sold. As I just told Radu in a PM, Mike will now have my original KLH Model 10's from my 1973 dorm room, driven by the exact model of the integrated amp I used.....and he goes to the same college as I did (Univ of Dayton). Too weird.....(oh and something tells me he's sharing other college life experiences too....

Ah, college life!

I sold audio during the mid-to-late '70s. My vote for low-cost amps goes to NAD. I still have one of their receivers, and it still sounds good. NADs little 20 watt integraded is also well regarded.

Hey, you got my undying gratitude

Seriously, though, the timing was amazing. I had just logged on and found the thread. Just as I posted my response to your referencing my sale, a message popped up that I had PM and it was Ted contacting me to purchase the Marantz.

Thanks for the plug.

Radu
