Vintage Amps and Grados

Hey it looks like i might be getting some Grado RS-1s from a trade (if so im the luckiest 16 year old ever) but all i have to power it is a Marantz 2220B would this be able to drive it well at all?

My Marantz 2220B powers the Senn 600s and AKG 501s pretty well, with good sound to boot. Not as refined as my Corda HA-1, but more than acceptable.

Grado 225's worked very well from the headphone out in our Marantz 2230. There is a thread that covers this subject within the last month.

The Grado headphones are all low impedance, and easier to drive well than many of the higher impedance phones from other manufacturers such as Sennheiser and AKG.

The Marantz should have no problem driving these headphones with very full bass, and very natural soundstage. I don't think you will be disappointed.

In my opinion, you would have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a modern amp that sounds as good, let alone better, than the Marantz.
