Venture Electronics (VE) Duke - a new high-performance IEM
Aug 20, 2015 at 5:18 PM Post #226 of 662
I've been using the Duke and DN2KJ almost exclusively and IMHO they both have similar treble extension. Depending on the track being played one will sound more sibilant than the other.

I can tolerate them both because I don't listen to my music at loud volumes, but I can see how some people would find one or both to have too much of a spike up top for their preference.

Yep - I'm a quiet listener too Vince (mostly in the 60-70 dB region).  There must be a spike that I'm particularly sensitive to - doesn't hit me most of the time, then it's suddenly there. Next week I'm, going to give it a touch of EQ - should solve everything.

But right now I have to finish Jive and move onto T20 (tour unit)

I know about Macross on and off from the game (super robot war Z series mostly)  and have seen one of the OVA / Movie of the classic series when I was young(not sure which i have seen) , So I am like the other way around, but they are both great series~

OK - for the Duke owners who would like to hear how really good it can sound - I've got a treat in store for you.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ekiqikk93hu5h8b/foobar2000%20for%20VE%20Duke.zip?dl=0

The above link will take you to a self-contained Foobar2000 zip file.  Download, unzip.  Navigate to folder.  Double click on the Foobar2000 icon.  When it opens, just click on File > Preferences.  In the new window that opens, you'll see a box called DSP chain presets.  Highlight the Duke, click load, then click apply.  Drag some music to the queue pane (lower right).  Click play.  Be prepared to be blown away.

Can also be run (similar ) on Android (Neutron)

Another option is Neutron on Android which has been updated to include a 10-band parametric EQ--
1. go to settings->Equalizer Presets and choose the 10-Band Parametric
2. hold the EQ button to edit the 10 bands, click User Interface and max out all three sliders
3. edit the 10 bands as follows:
#1 (Low shelf) 58Hz, Gain: 7.9dB, Q: 0.66
#2 (Peak EQ) 412Hz, Gain: -2dB, BW: 2
#3 (Peak EQ) 1321Hz, Gain, 3.5dB, BW: 1.4
#4 (Peak EQ) 2165Hz, Gain: 10.4dB, BW: 0.7
#5 (Peak EQ) 3250Hz, Gain: -4.5dB, BW: 0.4
#6 (Peak EQ) 4585Hz, Gain: 0.7dB, BW: 0.4
#7 (Peak EQ) 6500Hz, Gain: -7.7dB, BW: 0.3
#8 (Peak EQ) 7180Hz, Gain: 1.7dB, BW: 0.3
#9 (Peak EQ) 8250Hz, Gain: -7.3dB, BW: 0.3
#10 (High-shelf) 11172Hz, Gain: -1.20dB, Q:1.4

This is not my work - but is from someone who is really good at this sort of thing.  Interested in your thoughts.

Or it's a way to correct a headphone with an obvious flaw. But then - you haven't heard them yet - so you wouldn't be able to appreciate just how sharp the treble peak is.

And if you choose not to use EQ, that's fine - but please don't belittle those of us who do
