I have been waiting for this album foooooorrreeeeeeever. It's streaming in various places on the internet, so I was wondering what people thought of it so far.

I've listened to it twice since last night. I definitely like it a lot. It's not as hard rocking as Contraband, but it is definitely funkier and more diverse. She Builds Quick Machines is still one of my favourites, but I also really like Just Sixteen, American Man (sooo catchy), Get Out the Door, and Pills, Demons, & Etc. There isn't really a crappy song on the record, but that may be ridiculously biased as I love Slash and anything he touches, so.....

The whole band really pulled together for this record. Duff has some pretty mean bass lines, Matt is tight as always, Slash is *****ing awesome as always, Dave is fitting more and more into place backing Slash, and Scott has quite the diverse range on this album. He goes from introspective to emotional to balls out rocker to bluesy all in under an hour. Actually, that's my only complaint about the album - I've waited 3 years for it and I think it clocks in at under an hour.

Now, time to wait for them to come to town so I can die happy - again (last time I saw them was so epic).

I don't like Velvet Revolver, but I love Guns N' Roses. It's the Axl Rose - Scott Weiland contrast that does it for me

I know what you mean. I like Scott Weiland a lot, but if you asked me to choose between Axl Rose ca. 1988 and Scott Weiland today, well....

Though Axl is a HUGE idiot, he's an amazing vocalist

Yeah, and VR is progressing more in the alternative rock direction, which isn't favourable considering their backgrounds. Don't get me wrong, I'm an alternative fan, but not the sound of VR.
That being said, live videos of Axl getting pissed off are a guilty pleasure of mine

I especially love the St.Louis videos

Just picked it up! I'm on track 3 now but have heard bits of other songs as I skipped through the album in my truck last night. I like it better than Contraband, it's got more of a groove to it... almost sounds more like some of the better STP stuff. So far so good!

I'm really not liking it too much. Way to soft and mellow to get me into. But, maybe it will grow on me.

I seen them in concert doing stuff from the contraband album, and it was amazing. I don't think seeing them play this stuff live would be very energetic.

Just ripped to E.A.C. last night. I like it better than Contraband thus far.

In regards to vocalists, believe it or not, Scott is the better musician, imho. Appetite was unbelievable, and will always be a classic, but Axl's voice gets grating after a while. Scott has much more musicality and tone going on. He has also produced a much larger volume of music, despite drug dilemmas, etc. Look at Core; that will go down as an all time classic, just as Appetite For Destruction has. I don't anticipate Axl ever getting his act together, and, quite frankly, I no longer give a damn. A true musician would put aside petty crap and produce music. Axl is not concerned with such things. He's like a football player who only cares about a contract.

Not bad at all. Not what I was expecting but VR has found their own sound and it's quite funky - different to STP or GNR. I was hoping for more epic solos but what he does is solid, suits the recording and is quintessentially Slash.

BTW if you like Slash, check out Buckethead. Awesome, genius musician is he.

I like it about as much as Contraband.

I like VR but also feel they don't offer anything new. They seem to use the same 1980's metal tricks mixed with some alternative stuff. I guess there's no getting around the fact that they are a mixed old band doing the best they can.
