What is the best power cable in the 20-40 dollar range. I am getting a fancy CDP for Chistmas (yay, either a Music Hall CD25, Arcam, or Rega) and my parents told me that I needed a stocking gift. I know that is the resonable limit in price for a stocking gift. So, is the Basic Power my only option?

I wouldn't reco getting the Basic Power. I would see if they would allow you to get the Power 3 instead and have you pay the difference or something!! It is a much better pc, and will do your new CDP justice!!

In the same price range as the power 3 and with the same audible difference: NO!! Not a chance!! No one has ever reported any where near the differences in sound in any other power cord near the price of the VD Power 3. $75 is really a steal for what they do!!!! With a CDP like you're getting, you should team it up with something good like these cables!!!

I believe a couple people here tried the Basic and didn't think much of it. You'll also recall Jude's little experiment cutting open this cable. Although he is no cable builder/designer, *in his opinion* he felt this cable did not have the best construction FWIW. Look on audiogon for used Power 3's. can't go wrong with that cable.
