So my Senn HD 600 is coming in the mail tomorrow and I was looking at Vali 2 or Magni 2 with Modi 2 to use them with since there's only a slight price difference.
Is there a noticeable difference between Vali 2 and Magni 2, and which would you recommend for me if I were to mostly listen to jpop/rock/ballads/classical? I read that some people were disappointed with the Magni 2 with this headphone.
New to this, so I would appreciate any other recommendations as well.

Thanks!

I had the original Magni, then bought original Vali. Strongly preferred Vali for HD600.

I did not know you had the original Magni. I just got one, and I'm kind of digging it!

But to answer the thread's question - between the Magni 2 and Vali 2, I'd side with the Vali 2. Definitely and no question there. I did not care for the Magni 2. Magni 2 Uber may be a different story, but Vali 2 - I liked that amplifier.

I forget now - the Magni 2 and Magni 2 Uber were released a while ago. I can go look it up and add the information here, but there are some sonic differences too. Jason posted it - an experiment he did to see if there was any noticeable sound difference with a minor tweak and minor bump up in cost. He and others out there felt the cost and sonic gain were worth it.

I have the Vali 1 and liked the synergy between it and both my vintage HD580s and HD600s.  But I've found the G1217 Polaris to be a significant upgrade.  It's adjustments flexibility plus the tubish tone from the FET stage makes it an excellent choice.

Agreeing with previous posters for sure. If you can afford the price of the Polaris, do it. The Vali 2 is no slouch with the 600's though, its a solid runner up.

That doesn't seem huge for the price difference. Am I missing something in regards to what that affects?

You don't just get other inputs, you get an external power supply. Modi(2) is totally dependent on USB power, Modi2Uber has SPDIF inputs, which don't carry power from the soundcard or motherboard (much less a CDP), so it needs the external power supply. That accounts for about half of the price difference in hardware. Schiit also claims it measures better, but probably not audible to most people unless you're comparing it to a Modi2 used with a crappy USB port.

Get the Uber if you decide to go for the Modi. Jason Stoddard of Schiit confirmed recently all newly shipped M2Us are coming with the 4490 chip instead of the old 4396. An otherwise silent revision that's been in place for about a month now.
