I was digging around and found a perfect pair of MDR-V600s. Yes, we all know they sound terrible, but the comfort factor is OK. Technically, what component is really the fault? Poor drivers, bad enclosure design, what? Does anyone know?
Anyway, are there any mods for these things? Replace drivers, add foam, remove foam, change cable, etc.
I've read all the jokes about them for years, so we don't need to go over them again, just looking for actual advice. I really can't sell them, the cable was cut down to about 2' and terminated with a 1/8" jack (obviously for portable use). I just hate to see such a nice looking and comfortable set go.

They really don't sound that bad. Certainly better than Triports at any rate.

the general complaint is boomy, uncontrolled bass.

I'm unaware of mods for that model. i have one here, I just don't care enough to try.

its really a lack of deep bass and an over emphisis on mediocre midbass, totally non-existant soundstage too. the highs are pretty decent though. i dismantled a pair planning on a driver swap too but i ended up throwing them out, they are very cheaply made.
