Does anyone have or has tried both of these? I have the cd780, but I am thinking of switching to a v6. Could someone put up a tiny review in a few sentences?

Nobody has tried them both?

the 780's are really nice...and non-portable, and provide no isolation

V6's, never heard 'em=Isolation, portable...

I'd prefer the 780's, but that's because I have eggos, and never tried the V6's...

I'd be inclined to believe, though it is important to note that I have not heard the 780's, that they would be 'flatter' and 'faster' than the V6's. Certainly faster, because of the amorphous diamond diaphragm.

I have the Sony MDR-CD580s, and they absolutely obliterate the V6s, IMHO. As in stomp on. As in smoke. As in chew up and spit out. I consider the CD580s to be ultra-hi-fi. They're my favorite pair of headphones right now, recently rediscovered after months neglect. Monster low lows, super-extended highs, a smooth, forward overall balance (soooooooooooooo not laid back!), and an ultra-neutral midrange. Super-realistic sound. Much prefer them to my Grado SR60s, prefer them to my Senn HD580s. Awesome to the max.

So, bottom line, if I were you, I'd hang on to the CD780s if you are going to get the V6s. The V6s are nice phones, don't get me wrong, but you'd be much, much better off sound-quality-wise with a pair of Grado SR60s, IMHO, if you want to take the head-fi-mainstream-certified route.

I think I remember you said the CD780s were too bright or harsh in the past. You'll likely have the same problem only worse with the V6s. On the V6s, the low bass is exaggerated, the mid-bass is recessed, the midrange is upward sloping and bright, and the highs are very extended and exaggerated.

Maybe you could try a pair of CD580s, they might be a little less bright than the CD780s, who knows. They have different drivers, as you know.

Or maybe you prefer a less aggressive sound, as many do. The Senn HD580s ain't half bad, y'know.
