ok so i've been reading around on head-fi for a while now and really enjoy what you guys have to say.. before i found head-fi i was realllly attracted to the sony 700dj's and knowing practically nothing about headphones, i thought "ohh cool! anything over $100 must be awesome quality" well i love the 700's.. compared to anything i've ever listend to before they're beautiful.. i love the weight, the durable feel, the style, the bass.. everything.. EXCEPT the comfort.. MY GOSH it feels like they're designed to hurt my ears.. so i hear that the v6's are supposed to be pretty cool and get excellent reviews on head-fi etc etc.. i've read that durabilityily (is that a word?) speaking there isn't much of a difference.. i picked up a pair of 700dj's from best buy for $150.. knowing i can return them and get a pair from an online dealer for $95 shipped..

all that aside, i went to ultimate electronics today to see what they had and would let me play with.. they had a pair of v600's which i know are not the v6's but i assume have the same pleather ear cup thing? if so then i'll order a pair of v6's tonight.. but i want to be sure before i fork over the $$ on something i've never tried.. also, compared to the 700dj's are they heavy? light? do they feel like they're worth $$ or do they feel cheap? i assume they fold as nicely.. the v6's have a 40mm driver vs the 700dj's 50mm.. am i going to notice a difference?

second to last question.. v6 vs 7506.. only difference that i've heard is gold plated jack.. is it worth the extra $$?

and finally.. last question
biggrin.gif
7506 vs 7509.. is the 7509 any good for the extra $100? i'd appreciate any input anyone has.. thx!

btw these are for home/portable use.. with my ipod, stereo and computer (audigy platinum)

oh and the v6/7506 won't rape my ears right? (they feel the same as the v600?)

heheh. The V6 will blow away the Dj phones. the V6 is very comfortable, and you can get Beyerdynamic soft pads for them to make them super comfortable. the V600 isnt exactly like the V6. you wont get raped as bad with the V6, but they are still comfy. The V6 is just as good as the 7506, way better than the 7509, and the V600 and 700dj just plain are horrible in comparison. you should send back your 700djs. they arent horrible in themselves, but its just that they are priced about 5X what they are worth, many here think, including myself. i have a pair of $15 koss hedaphones that LITERALLY sound better. (Koss KSC-50) get the V6. see for yourself. enjoy!!

The 7509s sound more distant, yet at the same time thicker than the 7506/V6... but if the bass on the V6 is that little bit too heavy... its time to hit that tone control... They are definetly in a better class to my ears than the newer 7509/v600/v700s...

Interesting thing I notice - when people talk about DT250 comfort, comments are like "very good, so comfy, reasonable comfy BUT ONLY if your ears are of medium to small size", and when they talk about the Beyer pads used with the V-6, comfort is "super", "awesom", "exeptional", etc.

I've noticed that as well. I assumed 2 things:

1. The beyer pads must not be the same ones used on the 250

or

2. They're just so awesomely comfy compared to the V6

Neither...

Its just that the V6 is of a looser fit, so the [Beyer] pads don't squash so heavily against the side of your head

i have the v6, and i really like it (mods include the beyer pads). but my v6 has been gathering dust since i got the sony d66 eggos. i'd say the eggos are your best bet for a good all-arounder w/o an amp.

the eggos have a more even sound than the v6, fold up smaller, are more sturdy than they look, have better soundstage, and are supra-aural (goes around the ear, not on it). they don't have the deep bass of the v6 (but good bass), or the v6's sharp treble, and they don't isolate quite as well as the v6.

so far i have had three different strangers on three different occasions make me take off my eggos just to tell me how cool they look.

well i stopped by guitar center today and picked up some 7506's.. first impression was "my gosh a lot of work went into that packaging" and then "they're so flimsy!" i don't like the way they feel in my hands vs the 700dj's but headphones are meant to be on your head right? so that's where i put them.. comfort right off is a major plus.. they really feel good and don't squeeze my head quite as tight as the 700's but still feel like they won't fall off if i shake my head.. the plug is a bit shorter than the 700's.. i suppose because the 700's advertise the ability to hang the cord over the plug to minimize clutter.. sure whatever.. i think i like the smaller one on the 7506's because it doesn't stick out as far on the ipod..

sound quality.. i dunno if i can really tell a difference.. i mean when you move from a p 166 to a p4 1.8ghz.. you don't know the difference between 1.6ghz and 1.8ghz.. so to my uneducated ear they sound the same.. and i like the bass

few more questions.. the cords on the sides.. they look reallly thin and flimsly.. anyone had any trouble with them? and.. how hard is it to do the beyer pad mod?

after tax i walked out with them for $108.25.. can i find a better
deal on the net +shipping?

edit - found them at etronics for $99 shipped ;x worth the $8? nah :p i'm lazy

thx for all your answers and help

tuck the cords behind the headband, it keeps them from getting caught. the beyer mod is very easy. takes 5 minutes, although at $20 for the pads i waited until the sony pads wore out.
