Hello,

I have had my Sony MDR-EX71SLW's for a long while now, and the poor build quality has definetely shown itself. They're starting to fall apart, and so I need an upgrade.

I have been looking around, and am looking at In-Ear style earphones. So far I have looked the the V-Moda Vibes and the Shure E2Cs, but haven't found a direct comparison that has a clear outcome. I listen to Hip-Hop, and like the bass to be deep, defined but not overpowering. I like to have clear trebles that are clear over the bass. What would you suggest the Vibes, or the E2C's? I'm not too bothered about what they look like, though the Vibes do definetely tempt me if they have decent sound quality.

I am also open to suggestions of other in-ear style earphones for £50 or under (£50 is my limit).

Hope you can all help me,

Amar

P.S. feel free to suggest other things...i'm open minded, just had a good experience with in-ear style so far

I currently have the Vibes and love them. For around $100 they sound amazing. Soundstaging is good, transparency is good. As for bass response, I listen to all types of music, including hip-hop and they sound great. If your looking for an overall good IEM, these are great. If your looking for unbelievable, you'll have to spend some bucks. Hope this helps.

Given a choice, IMO the Mylar X3s are superior sound sig to the Vibes, and $30 less. Owned Vibes, own X3s. Don't know about E2Cs, never owned them.

my choice would be MylarOne X3 > E2C > Vibes

Vibes have little to no clarity at all, but they definitely look cooler than the other two. The E2C's have little to no bass at all, but are a lot more detailed than the Vibes, which I found was really muddy. The X3's trump them both with great bass, great detail, and great sound staging. I'm speaking about the 2nd generation vibes, and from what people have said, the 1st generation vibes sound much better, but I don't think you can get your hands on 1st gen vibes anymore so I'd just stay away from vibes.

Hmm, heard nothing but good about the MylarOne X3's....can't find them to get in the UK though...atleast not on Amazon, and I don't use eBay for fear of getting fakes with cheaper drivers (happened to a friend of mine)

Thank you all for your input!

Might go for the Vibes, after reading about isolation on my other thread, it'd be more helpful for me to have less of it...

http://www.jaben.net/shopping.html

Go there. Free international shipping. Jaben is a very highly praised store on these forums, and Uncle Wilson from Jaben has GREAT customer service. I advise you to look into those. X3 >>>>>> Vibes (2nd gen) in terms of sound quality IMO. You'll find that the 2nd gen Vibes have a very congested sound because of the hump in its bass frequencies while the X3's have great sounding bass, but are much more detailed and clear.

Edit: Oh and also, the X3's have the same amount of isolation as Vibes do, so not too much isolation. You can read some impressions on the X3's around the forums. They are a WONDERFULLY priced headphone. Cheaper than the Vibes and better than the Vibes. Unless you want the "looks" of the Vibes which I find is ridiculous because they are sitting in your ears anyways.

Agree on the Vibes v. X3 comparison. Not even close. I even had the 1st gen silver Vibes, and sold them once I got the X3s (thought they were muddy too, not enough detail for me), but the idiotic post office could not deliver them for some reason, and now they are lost in the netherworld (some postal worker is probably using them). I had return address on them, but it's been two weeks. Lesson learned: Use UPS for peace of mind.

You think the X3's are muddy and not detailed enough? Or were you speaking of the Vibes.

The E2's are huge, if that makes a difference. There have been a few comments about the E2's cable durability, as well (although any earphones used in certain ways will have issues).

Consider saving some money and getting a clear (but not mind-blowing) improvement over the Sony's: the Creative EP630s. Similar form to the Sony's, except for a more conventional "Y" cord instead of the asymmetrical Sony cord. Build quality better, and more durable. Ample bass.

PS: Souperman -- I think the reference was to the Vibes, not the X3's.

Haha that's what I was thinking. X3's are not muddy at all. And I do second your recommendation too. I love my EP630's. You could probably find them for just 10 bucks or a tad bit more.

Hello once again,

Having looked at the MylarOne X3's, they don't look too strong...are they? I'm never really very careful with earphones lol, probably why my sony are falling apart..

Also, I was looking at Ultimate Ears Metro.Fi 2 & Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 3. What do you reckon? I can get Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 3 for the same price as the vibes, but the Ultimate ears look less fashion concious and more concerned with sound quality lol. Read in a few reviews that the bass of the Super.Fi 3's is somewhat weak..is it exceptionally weak, or just a little?

Thank you once again

P.S. I'd like to apologise for my continious questions, just the first time i've decided myself on what headphones to get, thought it best to get some info to help my decision.
