I was wondering if I could use /www.vintagecassette.com/optonica/rt_6206 this receiver and a pair of bookshelf speakers with my desktop, and was also wondering if anybody has any insight on a decent pari of bookshelves, preferably under $100.

What is your source? Are you using the motherboard DAC?
 
I would also recommend moving up to the M-Audio AV40's which can be found pretty close to $100 last time I checked. They are powered speakers, so they don't rely on that receiver to power them, this way, you can go from the computer directly to the speakers.
