Man, P3 800, 256 megs of RAM, and a Geforce 64 meg GTS and performance is choppy as hell. What does it take to run this thing?

Sorry vertigo, those specs were the best in 99 when UT came out.. Four years have past. You could go all the way and get a GF4 4XXX .. Or you could just get a very cheap gf3ti200 which runs the thing fine. However - you will also need a decent cpu. I'd say 1500 mhz AMD or 2gighz intel would do pretty well!!

*sigh*

Anybody want to help me configure a P4 based computer for around say, $1000-2000 that could run UT2003 and be overkill for about another year or two? Most of my current components can be moved I know like my drives and soundcard...mainly I just need a new core and video card and probably a new case for whatever mobo form factor they have now. I'm too lazy to do two weeks of research like I used to do on this stuff.

Yeah, if you have the cash, overkill probably is the best solution.. If I was you I would wait till nvidia launches their first directX9 card though... That is, if you need to be just a bit future proof...

Well after doing some quick catch up reading, I'm reminded why I haven't upgraded for quite a while. Everytime I'm ready to upgrade, it seems there's something just over the horizon that's about to be released...in this case the Nvidia NV30 and the 3 gig P4. I'm always forever trying to wait on those on the horizon stuff.

Well, anybody want to guess how jerky this game's gonna be on my Celeron 600, GeForce 2 Pro, 384 MB SDRAM? I'm about to find out. I've got to get a new computer.

lets see

$160 - 120 gig WD 8mb cache OEM
$269 - 2.53ghz P4 (should OC well) to 3.0ghz hopefully
$140 - 845 based motherboard
$175 - 512mb PC 2700 ddr crucial
$70 - for an enermax or pc power and cooling PSU
$30 - cheap case
$60 - pioneer dvd-rom
$140 - plextor 40x12x40
$15 - floppy
$30 - aftermarket alpha cpu cooler
$400 - ATI 9700 PRO
$40-80 - SCTB or GXTP soundcard
$10 - NIC
$20 - 56k modem
$10-20 - keyboard
$40 - microsoft optical mouse (explorer)
$150-300 - Monitor either 19" flat screen or a 15" lcd
Total: $1990 (before tax)

if you buy these parts online try to get these parts from the same vendor to save some money on shipping. Plus you should be able to save a lot if you buy these parts online since I based these prices on a local computer store. You can also skimp out on a lot of stuff up there. so you will probably make it under 2000 and it should last you a couple of years I think.

i have a
1.4ghz T-bird
512mb pc 2100 ddr
40 gig
geforce 2

and i have to play at 640 with no details to get 27 fps average
think what happens when action appears... gives me a headeache.

edit: didn't read your post all the way ha! here lets see

new mobo new cpu new case new vid?

30-140 for cheap case or aluminum li-lian case
270 - 2.53 ghz cpu
400 - ATi 9700 PRO
140-180- for a nice 845 based motherboard
total: 990 before tax ha under a grand.

what you just wrote makes me want to cry. I have a very similar system to yours. Damn it, I hate it when this happens. I'll be going to college in 2 years . . . (junior in HS now). . . I'll be building a new one then. Huh. Maybe I'll do a vid card/ram upgrade. . . .

I'm getting excited about college next year because I will finally get me a new 'puter.
Maybe I'll even get back into gaming since my system will kick so much ass, at least compared to my current Tbird 750Mhz rig. I am downloading that UT demo just to see what happens though.
